It's the most beautiful egg ever. Light blue-green. My hens were just as amazed as I.
And it happened on the day my mother was born, July 17th. Rest her soul. She would be over the moon with such confirmation of the world's goodness. (We never had colored eggs like this from the brood we raised on the Cape. Just weird shaped eggs from an old hen named Big White.) I miss my mom especially today. It's been 21 years since she's been here. So you can imagine my utter delight when I opened the egg box and saw this perfection. As my stage manager once put on the call board on the last night of our production of THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH: "As it was in the beginning, Is now and ever shall be, World without end, Amen, Amen."
I feel close to the cycle of Life today.
And then there is this. It's nearly killing me. But it proceeds.

I was just thinking about all my friends in High school's parents and I still remember stopping by your mom's office after school. She always had a smile and a kind word. Fond memories. Happy Birthday Marie!
The first egg is the bestest! But truly, all of the eggs after the first will continue to be miraculous.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Kristina! I've since had 3 more! From different hens, I'm sure. But the last two, found today by my kids, were clearly too thin-shelled to make it. One collapsed in a place, and the other just wasn't fully formed, or was pecked. They were both a different color, so I think they were from different hens from the first two, but it's hard to tell cuz the shells were so compromised. But I'm still so amazed by these young ladies following the considerable feat set by Allison, the first layer.
